The Foo Fighters

Saint Cecilia

The Foo Fighters are a rock band from Seattle. The lead singer, Dave Grohl was the drummer in popular grunge band Nirvana. They have released 8 studio albums, and a greatest hits album as well.

The Foo Fighters surprised everyone with their release of Saint Cecilia in November 2015. It is a free download on ITunes. There are 5 songs on the album, Saint Cecilia, Sean, Savior Breath, Iron Rooster, and The Neverending Sigh. Each song has similarities to a different era of the Foo Fighters.

Saint Cecilia,album’s namesake, is a tribute to the hotel that the band recorded the album in, while staying in Austin Texas. Saint Cecilia is light and melodic. It has the catchiness of the Foo Fighters many hits, like Everlong and Times like These.

Sean is catchy in a different way than Saint Cecilia. It features the drums, and its hook is simple, only the name Sean.

Savior Breath has a harder rock song than some of the other songs, reminiscent of In Your Honor (disc 1), and The Colour and the Shape. Dave Grohl frequently screams in the song. similar to

Iron Rooster is a break from the intensity of Savior Breath. It is similar to a few songs on In Your Honor (disc 2), for example Friend of a Friend and Virginia Moon. It is one of the slower songs on the album, and features a slow guitar solo.

The Neverending Sigh starts out similar to Iron Rooster, and then takes a turn toward Sean and Savior Breath. It is in the middle of levels of intensity of the album.

A Principle to Keep

A principle is defined as “a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.” Principles help our world work.

Besides not eating people,a principle that should always be kept is to treat other people with respect.Even though this principle is not one that everyone lives by today, respecting others is one of the easiest to live by. As a child, people are told to treat others to way they would like to be treated.If people treat other people with respect,they will mostly likely treat with the respect that is given them.

In a world in which people's social class does not matter,being condescending, and treating people without respect could be what gets someone killed. If someone acts as if they are above someone, when people can kill you with few repercussions,they probably would.

There are many other principles that should be kept in any situation, but respect is one of the most important.

2 Classmates I'm Thankful For

This year I’ve grown close with Karen and Mearieta, we’ve done most if not all of our group work together and I’m glad I got to make 2 more awesome friends this year. I’ve known both of them since 7th grade.

I am thankful for Mearieta. Mearieta and I have known each other for 2 years. We bonded over our love for a book series called the sisters grimm during sevie orientation.(Which I don’t even know how I remember) I also remember how cool her eyes were.  We didn’t have any classes together during 7th grade or 8th grade and we basically only acquaintances. This year we finally got to have 2 classes together. Mearieta is really nice and funny. She always makes me laugh during geometry and english. I’m glad that I  (Even though I had to check how to spell her name.)

Karen and I have had some mutual friends in the past, but we were never really close until this year. She’s really funny and nice, and I don’t know why I was not friends with her sooner. Karen, I’m happy that we became closer friends this year.

I’ve learned a lot in this class this year, and I’m thankful for it, and the great friends I have.

What did Margaret do?

I think that Margaret became very bitter and quiet towards the end of the story, but did not mean to kill Francis. I do not think that she is capable of killing a human. She seems to be very arrogant and shallow, qualities not usually found in a murderer. Margaret also seemed genuinely upset after she shot Francis.

Throughout the story, she enjoys watching Wilson and Francis hunt, because he is afraid of killing the lion, and runs away.However, once she realizes that he is becoming more brave, she says “Just because you chased some helpless animals in a motor car doesn't mean you can talk like heros.” She then says “You’ve gotten awfully brave,awfully suddenly.” Hemingway describes her as saying it “contemptuously , but the contempt in her voice was not secure. She was very afraid of something.” I think that she was afraid that Francis would become brave enough to leave her,which would leave her with nothing. Francis leaving Margaret was something he previously would not have done, as shown by the quote “If he had been better with women she would probably have started to worry about him getting another new, beautiful wife.” Even though Margaret has the motive to kill Francis, she already had a good income from her modeling, and would probably be able to live off of what she earned

When Margaret shoots Francis, the narrator says “Mrs.Macomber, in the car, had shot the buffalo with the 6.5 Mannlicher, as it seemed about to gore Macomber.” If she wanted Francis dead, she would most likely have let him be killed by the buffalo, or as Wilson suggested, poison him. I think that she was trying to save Francis from the buffalo, and missed. After she shot Francis, she is “crying hysterically”, and seems upset with Wilson for accusing her of murdering Francis.

John Proctor: Hero or Stooge?

I think that John Proctor is a hero. He repeatedly tried to do the right thing, even if it ends up blowing up in his face. John Proctor has flaws, like human being, or literary character. He clearly regrets cheating on his wife. In Act 1, he tells Abigail “I will cut off my hand before I’ll ever reach for you again.” He also is clearly willing to sacrifice his life for Elizabeth’s when he confesses to lechery, even though he isn’t able to free Elizabeth, and gets himself accused of being with the devil.Not only does he try to free Elizabeth, he tried to free all of the people were accused of witchcraft. He sometimes loses control of his anger though and he threatened to “bring your (Mary Warren’s) guts into your mouth.” if she did not tell the court that the witchcraft was a sham, and when he calls Abigail a whore. His, if he didn’t cheat with Abigail, she wouldn’t have blamed Elizabeth Proctor, and neither Proctor would have died. Even though Proctor may not be the most religious person in Salem, he is one of the few who can see through Abigail and the other girls charade.

There goes the neighborhood

When 2 cultures come together , their different traditions, language, and sometimes religion can clash. This is because of ethnocentrism, which is the belief that one’s culture is superior to every other culture.

In the case of the European settlers, they thought that their way of life was so much better than the Native American’s way of life, that they tried to force their culture upon the Native Americans. When the Natives Americans refused the European culture, they were thought of as savages. Due to the fact that in the European’s eyes, the Native Americans had less advanced technology. The French-Indian war started mostly because of the difference in culture.

However, sometimes when 2 cultures come together, an entirely new culture or language can form. For example, many Americans now speak Spanglish, which can be considered a completely new language. Also, in New Orleans,the French settlers and their African American slaves settled in the 1700’s, for the most part, the 2 cultures were separated. When the slaves were freed after the Civil War, the 2 cultures had less separation and eventually created the culture which we now know as Creole culture. The 2 cultures are also still alive and well in Africa and France.

There are many different outcomes, positive and negative that can occur when 2 cultures combine. It depends on how open minded the 2 groups of people are to new traditions.
